Our health and safety policy, and how it works on every Cosmos site.

Our commitment

Cosmos Infra Ltd. is committed to a safe and healthy workplace for everyone on our sites: our crews, the trades we work beside, our clients and the public.

Safety ranks equally with quality, schedule and cost. No task is so urgent that it cannot be done safely, and no one at Cosmos will ever be asked to put production ahead of their safety.

Safety is everyone’s job

A safe site needs management, supervisors and workers pulling in the same direction.

  • Management provides safe equipment, training and work procedures, gives supervisors the time and resources to run a safe site, and reviews this policy and our safety program every year.
  • Supervisors and foremen make sure every worker knows the hazards of the job and the safe way to do it, enforce our procedures, inspect their work areas and correct unsafe conditions on the spot.
  • Workers work in a way that keeps themselves, their coworkers and the public safe, wear the protective equipment the task calls for, and report hazards, incidents and near misses right away. Following our safety rules and the provincial health and safety regulations is a condition of working with Cosmos.
  • Subcontractors and visitors follow our rules and the general contractor’s site rules, and complete a site orientation before starting work.

Your rights on our sites

Everyone who works with Cosmos has the right to:

  • Know the hazards of their work and how to control them.
  • Take part in health and safety, by raising concerns and helping to fix them.
  • Refuse work they believe is dangerous, without losing pay or facing any reprisal.
  • Be protected from discipline or other action for raising a safety concern.

These rights come from Manitoba’s Workplace Safety and Health Act and the equivalent laws in Saskatchewan, Alberta and British Columbia. A stop-work call made in good faith is always backed.

The hazards of our trades

Our safety program is built around the work our crews actually do.

  • Every shift starts with a hazard assessment of the task and the area, and crews hold regular toolbox talks on the work ahead.
  • Working at heights: fall protection wherever it is required, and scaffolds and elevating work platforms inspected before use and run only by trained, certified workers.
  • Spray foam: applicators wear supplied-air respirators and protective suits, and the area is ventilated, signed and closed to other trades while spraying and until the manufacturer’s re-entry time has passed.
  • Dust: dust from cutting and sanding board and compound is controlled at the source, with dust-extracting tools and respiratory protection where needed.
  • Material handling: board is stocked, lifted and moved with the right equipment, and floors and exits are kept clear as the work moves through a building.

Training

New workers complete a safety orientation before their first shift, and training continues for as long as they work with us. Task-specific training and certification, such as fall protection, scaffolds, elevating work platforms, WHMIS and first aid, is required before anyone does that work. Training records are kept for every worker, with extra attention for new and young workers.

Incidents and near misses

Every injury, incident and near miss is reported the same day and investigated. What we learn is shared with the crews, and our procedures are changed where they need to be. Injured workers get prompt first aid and medical care, and we help them return to suitable modified work as soon as their recovery allows.

For general contractors

Our safety certificate, WCB clearance letters, program summary and safety statistics are part of our prequalification pack. Request any of them and we will email them to you.

Review

Management reviews this policy and our safety program every year, and whenever a law, a project or an investigation shows it needs to change. Last reviewed October 2026.
